During their first year, a child grows up to about 25cm : a new born measures up to about 50cm to reach 75cm at 12 months. The most of the growth happens during the first three months(3 to 4 cm each month). Until the age of 1, the rate of growth is 2cm per month.
As a rule of thumb, it is important to monitor the rate of growth of your child to ensure that he is growing at a satisfactory rate. Using a growth chart is the best way to watch on his optimum development. Therefore, this measurement has to be updated regularly until your child reaches at least 3 years old. You or your nanny could be in charge of measuring your child every 6 weeks. The doctor could verify the accuracy of these measurements while he does a general check up of the child.
